About 5 or 6 years ago was the first time I ever stepped into a recording studio, but also the first time I was about to embark on making a record.

The result: disaster. I lacked the actual skill of putting a song together. The engineer told me go homework on it and then come back the next week. I felt defeated but never did call him back (even though I’ve been speaking to him occasionally business wise for the last couple of years.)

Since then, upped my game tremendously. I’ve been taught by and co-written with some notable writers and songwriters.

So this week I hit up the same engineer. A project I was working on got cancelled, so I had to make up for this unexpected circumstance.

The results……

I went in their and know what I was doing. Some of the things I didn’t even expect to do, nevertheless but was ready to execute on call. The engineer applauded the work I put in to develop my skill, and now I have people asking me to write records for them.

The moral of the story is talent isn’t everything but skill is. Find your area of excellence and develop the hell out of your skill. I’ve put in thousands of hours to even get to this point, it took a lot of grinding, heartache and disappointments. Nevertheless, it is rewarding that people are digging my ISH.

Work hard and produce results.
