In today’s digital market content creation is important for brand building. At the same time, having the right strategy to engage an audience with your content is equally necessary. I’m writing this article to give you some insight to what you need to do and where to start. Subsequently, there’s only so much one can discuss short article about content marketing. It is up to you to do your research and find the right people who can help you.

Why you need to give free content!

Content creation in today’s marketplace is not only a must but a necessity. You need to stand out from the crowd, build authority, and have engaging content. For example (as I’ve stated several times in previous blogs), I’m giving you my perspective on what I think would be valuable for you. I want to build trust with you. Why? I believe the projects and things I create are something of value. I need and want your attention. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have anybody to listen to my music, read my blog, go to my events, etc.

Going Straight For The Sale Without Authority

Let me ask this question to you, “how likely would you buy someone’s music without ever listening to it?”

I’m sure the probability of it wouldn’t be very high. Nonetheless, there’s thousands or millions of musicians trying to sell their music on the internet without presenting whom they are to their audience. There’s a reason why someone like Drake, Ingrid Michaelson, or Beyonce, can announce a project and people will anticipating to buy it on the day of an announcement. They have built a fanbase on a past experience with their audience. Whether you’re a local or national artist, you have to invest your time and energy into doing this.

So what can you do to build authority and fanbase?

Find out who you want to target, develop a strategy, and target your audience with content. It could be anything, videos/vlogs, blog, free music download, etc. With the internet, your imagination, there is no limit. Whether you have one thousand die hard fans or a massive audience of a million, give your audience something that they value from you. Keep on giving and over delivering.

How to develop a strategy?

  1. Be specific about what you want to achieve. For example, your goal might be to sell 100 downloads of your record within six months of release. This will be your strategy and your main objective for your campaign.
  2. Find out what tactics you are going to use. In other words, tactics are the set of actions you will use to achieve your strategy. For this instance, you might want to drive traffic from your Youtube channel and get 50 people to buy your new project. Maybe you have a sizeable email list of die hard fans. Run a campaign and tell them about your project. Maybe you could run a contest where the first 20 people from your list who buys your project get something special.

My Ending Thoughts

Brand building and marketing is all about being organized, knowing what you want, and developing a structured way of achieving goals are deal breakers. It’s tedious but important. However, the main thing is to differentiate yourself from your competitors. It takes a lot of hard work and consistency. Subsequently, I believe in you. If you want this bad enough, you’ll put in the time and effort.
